Yvonne was one of the winners of our recent Goal Streaks challenge. We asked her to give us a few thoughts on her wellness journey with Fit by Burn and participating in the challenge!
With traveling you MUST have a plan. This has not come easy for me and I have fallen short several times. So I "plan" each day what I am going to do. If I am in a hotel, I research what might be available to me. I always pack a resistance band. Mandi Brown, my trainer, has posted over 15 exercise plans to our Group Facebook page and. last but not least, I asked my husband to help me. Like I said, I have been blessed to have worked under or with Mandi for the last 8 years. It has taken time for her advice to sink in and it is a daily decision to work out, eat right and make good food decisions. Mandi supports me, provides tools for success in my well-being journey from a physical and nutritional standpoint, states each day is a new day and she pushes me to be better. She knows how to work with me at whatever level I am at the time and she loves to tell me to DO IT!
When Mandi told me about Goal Streaks, I thought "This is perfect! I have two vacations planned during this Goal Streaks challenge." I planned out my exercise each day just like I do my meal planning - then the work was done ahead of time. Having the Goal Streaks challenge, helped my motivation. The reading or devotional part was actually my favorite. I loved how all of this tied together. I also chose to be very accountable because I needed to be. It was that important to me. I did not just wake up one day and do it perfectly. I just decided that I was tired of going on vacation and totally killing my eating and exercise routine!
Working with Mandi, I have learned it is not about calories in and calories out. It is about making wise choices. I am not perfect, I have to have balance. I have learned that if I eat well (little to no processed foods, low but good carbs, balance of all food groups and lots of water,) I can have that piece of cake or that dessert I so love in moderation. I can do it with no guilt! I love working with Mandi because she is so real. She says "Don't worry ladies, I had pizza for dinner last night." She makes me feel she is walking my exact journey.
The challenges at Fit By Burn help keep me accountable from both an exercise and food perspective. This is a lifestyle, not a hobby. I have not learned this overnight but over the years of working with Mandi and understanding how doing this makes me better physically/mentally and the hippest grandma ever! Being a grandma makes me happy, however, if I don't stay active, in good health, and being my best self, I can't be a hip-hop grandma, full of energy and able to play!
